China's African activity comes under increasing international scrutiny
Beijing's expanding presence in Africa is coming under mounting scrutiny, with United States and African officials citing a recent Chinese arms shipment bound for Zimbabwe as the latest sign that China's Africa strategy needs an overhaul.

South African dockworkers at the port of Durban were the first to refuse a Chinese merchant ship carrying ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades and mortar rounds that were bound for land-locked Zimbabwe in late April.

The governments of Angola, Mozambique and Namibia subsequently declared their refusal to accept the arms shipment, which many feared would be used in acts of violence and political repression in Zimbabwe over the disputed results of the 29 March presidential election

Are Harare and Nairobi setting the African Political pattern?
Author: George Ng'ambi
Blog: George Ng'ambis Small World

I hate to think that I may be a prophet of doom. But the elections in Kenya that were marred by seens of violence and intimidation compounded by Mugabe’s Zanu PF reluctance to release results and order an unwarranted recount in 23 parliamentary seats gives me a dozen of reasons to worry. More so because Malawians will be going to polls in or around May 2009. I hate to imagine that my vote will be rendered useless by the corrupt electoral system as is the case in Zimbabwe. The dilemma faced in that country is that the person who won before the recount is not known. We will never know, will we?

iwebtool web tools exhibiting poor performance
Author: Clement Nyirenda
Blog: Clement Nyirenda's Blog

I visited the iwebtool page for the first time in July 2007. I was prompted to visit the site because for sometime I had been receiving a good number of visitors on my blog from their backlink checker service. My curiosity to know more about them drove me to their page and I instantly fell in love with their Backlink checker, PageRank Checker and Google PageRank Prediction tools. The performance of these tools was great such that I could not even think of searching for other tools. When one searches for “PageRank Checker” on Google, the first position was always occupied by the iwebtool home page. Such was the dominance of the iwebtool page!

Towards the end of 2007, I began to notice some problems with their services. The PageRank checker service became so inconsistent. Apart from the inaccuracies and differences in the PageRank results from different Data Centers (DCs), some results were above the PR range of 1 to 10. Some friends of mine on BlogCatalog also took note of this problem. At first, I thought that this was probably a temporal problem. But now 4 months into 2008, the problem continues. Their backlink checker service also produces few back links compared to the Google webmastertools. The PageRank prediction system is not functioning at all. The iwebtool home page has lost its first position on Google SERPs for the “PageRank Checker” key word. With all these developments, I tend to wonder if the iwebtool people are still there out there? Please give me a shout and let me know what you are doing in order to reclaim your lost glory.

INCONSEQUENTIAL INCONSISTENCES.
By :Che Oyinatumba
Blog: Which Way Nigeria

If you have not read or heard of the call for a revolution by Professor Ben Nwabueze (SAN) during his book presentation, its either you have seen the emptiness of the call or the un-seriousness of the callers. Prof. Nwabueze first made this call during an interview reported in The Guardian of Sunday January 13 2008. At the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), the venue of his book presentation he was boldened by the presence of the new “enemies” of Obasanjo to pull the tiger by the tail. These characters: Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, G.O.K Ajayi (SAN) Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) Orji Uzor Kalu, Ayo Fayose, Emeka Ngige (SAN) Otunba Fasawe. (For a comprehensive list see Cicero @ Thisday, the Sunday Newspaper April 6 2008, page 103.) Like you who have not read, I chose not to reply, for the “bellful” cannot prescribe revolution. These characters can’t withstand anything. Their primary interest, is how to undermine the genuine agitation of the masses, so as to be seen as a sympathetic class in the plight of the masses. For expose on the emptiness of their revolutionary credentials, read: Obasanjo, Nwabueze and Revolution by Femi Falana, Thisday April 14. (Back page).

Independence and the An Yue Jiang
Author: Wellington

blog: Living Zimbabwe

It has been 24 days since the presidential elections and the official results are still to be released by ZEC. A lot has been going been going on in Zimbabwe since the 29th of March with one of them being the April 18th Independence Day celebrations. Just how independent Zimbabwe is, is something much left to be desired. I took a look at the dictionary definition of independence:

Independence - the quality or state of being independent, freedom from control or influence of another or others
freedom - the condition of being free; the power to act or speak or think without externally imposed restraints: autonomy, liberty - immunity from arbitrary exercise of authority: political independence
